1. Sony Xperia Z4
Sony’s upcoming flagship offering, the Xperia Z4, is only two months from its launch date, and it is already packing a myriad of features and powerful hardware specifications that will allow it to take the heat of competition directly to the other flagship devices. The device will have a 5.4 inch screen and will possess a Quad HD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). Even though the device will be launching during the first quarter of 2015, it will be void of Qualcomm’s flagship chipset; the Snapdragon 810. As disappointing as it is to see one of Sony’s flagship offerings not possessing a powerful chipset, the smartphone will be running the Snapdragon 805, which carries sufficient horsepower to make alphabet soup out of the competition. The Xperia Z4 will also be carrying Sony’s Triluminos display technology, a technology that is able to turn the dullest of ‘on screen’ items in to ‘eye candy’ content. As for the system RAM, the Xperia Z4 will be packing 4 GB of it and will be running Google’s Android Lollipop 5.0. The device will be powered by a 3,420mAh battery. While the Z4 will possess a 20.7 MP camera (and a 4.8 MP front shooter), Sony’s latest camera sensor, the IMX230 will be incorporated in to the smartphone, severely improving the overall image and video taking prowess of the Z4’s camera. Being miles better than its predecessor, the Xperia Z4 is a mobile powerhouse to watch out for.

2. HTC One M9
After a long session of financial drought, HTC was finally able to accumulate a plethora of success with its One M8 handset. The company will be attempting to repeat history with the inevitable release of its upcoming One M9 smartphone. First off, HTC’s devices are notorious for possessing an embellished design that automatically gives the impression that the company pays a lot of emphasis when paying attention to the overall looks of the device. Now, rumor has it that the One M9 will be designed by Fabrizio D’Onofrio, and will possess a 7mm-thin body that will be comprised up of aluminum and titanium. The handset is expected to carry a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels and is rumored to have its screen reinforced with sapphire glass. Another famous brand phone in the category of new phones coming out in 2015. After Samsung’s Galaxy S5’s lack of popularity forced the company to record an operating profit slump, the South Korean phone giant has attempted to make amends with the impending release of the company’s Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S6 has been named ‘Project Zero’ and will feature a premium design, something that is not currently in any of the company’s previous flagships. The company is being discouraged to incorporate a plastic chassis that it had adopted for the Galaxy S5 and instead, will deliver a far more upgraded look to the upcoming device. Similar to the previous upcoming models, the Galaxy S6 will be armed with a 1440p display and will feature a Snapdragon 810 chipset, which will be further supplemented by 3 GB of RAM. The Galaxy S6 16 MP rear camera will possess an OIS chip, along with a 5 MP Selfie shooter. 4. Google’s Project Ara smartphones
Google is planning on disrupting the smartphone industry with the release of its Project Ara smartphones. Mobile devices belonging to Project Ara will run on the same principle as desktop computers; the flexibility of replacing slower and / or faulty components with faster, better, and energy efficient ones. While purchasing a smartphone, users will frequently come across devices that will possess the right hardware specifications and features, but due to the absence of a single feature (such as a device being void of a microSD slot), users will be discouraged from purchasing the device. Now, with Project Ara smartphones, users will be given the flexibility of upgrading their components if they feel that it is causing a bottleneck in performance for the whole device. For example, a 1 GB RAM module can be replaced with 2 GB or even a 3 GB module depending on the requirement of the user. What is even more convenient is that these components can be swapped without powering off the device (unless of course the battery, display or chipset is being replaced). Project Ara devices will be running a modified version of Google’s Lollipop 5.0 and will be sold at a starting price of $50. The price will exponentially increase depending on how capable the aftermarket component is. Google will also be selling its modules separately on the Google Play Store and other outlets.
5. OnePlus Two
The amount of success garnered by the OnePlus One has allowed the company to raise the bar even further and introduce the worthy successor of the ‘Nexus Killer’, the OnePlus Two. The OnePlus One is still an elusive device so the company has proposed a better solution; to provide pre-orders of the OnePlus Two instead of the traditional invite system. Compared to the OnePlus One, the OnePlus Two will feature additional customizations, and according to the company’s global director, Carl Pei, the device will also feature the same killer price tag that its predecessor came with (OnePlus One is available for $299 for the 16 GB version and $349 for the 64 GB version). The company is attempting to keep up with demands as previously; the OnePlus One was not available for some time due to manufacturing issues. In terms of specifications, it is most likely that the device will sport a Snapdragon 810, along with 3 GB of RAM and a beefy battery. The operating system will once again be based on a custom ROM, with the director implying that there will be a lot more surprises waiting for the customer once the OnePlus Two launch date comes closer and closer.
