How to Experience Windows 8 on Your Old PC

With the advent of Windows 8, the whole world is quite unsure about its UI abilities. As promised, it has lot of things to offer to the whole operating system scenario. Peoples are curious about its offering a new user interface to work with.

Well current hardware can run windows 8 smoothly but to experience the real amusement of windows 8 you need to have your PC or notebooks equipped. But it’s for sure that you need to have a lot of RAM.

The most important thing about Windows 8 is that it is best experienced using touchscreens. But for notebook or a desktop PC, you need to have touch-enabled screen. Since, touchscreen monitor are not yet so common, you can try DIY-projects, which offers you to connect a touch panel to your existing screen.

But you can make following changes to make your old PC windows 8 ready:

Have a Touch Mouse:

You can upgrade your mouse to a touch mouse, which are available in the market around Rs. 4000. There are some cheaper versions also available for around Rs. 2500. These have regular left and right buttons but it has a touch sensor in place of scroll wheel for both vertical and horizontal scrolling. There are several products available in the market. Some of them are Microsoft’s own touch mouse, Logitech’s Touch Mouse and others to name few.

Needs more RAM:

DDR3 RAM is very cheap now a day. You can buy 4 GB RAM for a mere Rs. 1500. Installing RAM module is also not very difficult. You can do it yourself. So get some modules from your local computer store or get a technician to install Ram modules onto your system.

Buy big Monitors:

At least buy a 22 inch LED monitors for best experience. Monitors are getting cheaper day by day. You also have a wide range of choices to make. You can get a 22 inch LED for mere Rs. 7500 odd. There are also LCD’s, plasma etc.

Buy Touchpads:

Laptops have touchpad inbuilt to experience windows 8, but for desktop PC, you need to purchase Touchpads to support gestures.

Logitech has wireless rechargeable Touchpad T650. It can be placed anywhere as it has no cables attached to it. It can be recharged using USB cables for an entire month with a single recharge. There are 13 different gestures that you can use with this touchpad. The touchpad have a rechargeable battery and can be charged using USB cables.

Use SSD (solid state drive)

Windows 8 can boot itself very fast within few seconds. But you can also install SSD to do even faster reboot. With SSD your machine can go to sleep mode within a second or two.

Upgrading to Windows 8:

Now, it just needed to upgrade to windows 8. For windows 7 users, it is available for only Rs. 1999 (in India) as a special introductory offer for windows 7 user. You can also purchase the new version from Microsoft’s website to experience Windows 8.
