Installing Linux Operating Systems on Microsoft Virtual PC is not very straight forward, because it doesn’t support officially. But this guide shows how to install latest openSUSE 11.3 on Virtual PC with Windows 7 host with a small trick.

This installation is very easy with other desktop virtualization software such as VMware and VirtualBox. OpenSUSE 11.3 installation failed several times on Microsoft Virtual PC, then I found the way of working method. So, decided to share here.

• VMM: properly terminate the VM with an error if the guest is trying to switch to the PAE mode but PAE is disabled in the VM settings
• GUI: switch to native file dialogs
• GUI: don’t use native file dialogs on KDE hosts

Windows 7 comes with better backup and Restore options. You can easily select your personal documents for backup on different partitions, hard drives, external drives or Network locations.

Backup and Restore can be accessed in Windows 7 in control panel, or Maintenance in All Programs through start button.

If this is the first time you are running backup and restore in windows 7, you will get a fresh screen in Backup and Restore home page. To backup your personal documents in Windows 7 first time, select ‘Set up Backup’

This post explains how to mount ISO files CD DVD  drive in Virtual PC to install new OS. As Sysprobs announced earlier, Microsoft Virtual PC desktop virtualizations software tips and tricks will be available here and this is the first post in this series.
