Everybody likes to see and use Mac OS X, but how many of them are ready to buy Apple hardware? It’s very rare. This free and easy steps show how you can run Mac OS X on PC without buying any special hardware or software. This is completely free for testing and experimental use only.

I already published similar steps to run Mac OS X on PC with VMware workstation, obviously VMware workstation is not a free product. This time, let’s install and run Mac OS X on your PC with free product VMware Player 3. You can run Mac OS X on any X86 Intel or AMD computers having enough of RAM to run Mac virtual machine by this method.
Installation is not much differing than earlier steps.
Follow the steps,
1) Download Mac OS X 10.5.5 X86 VMware image here. ( It’s a torrent download)
2) Download and install VMware player 3. It’s a free product.
3) Extract the downloaded image file. See here for more details. ( it will be creating Mac VMware VMX file and VMware disk files)
4) Start VMware player.
5) Click on Open a Virtual machine.
6) Browse for ‘ Mac OS X Leopard ‘ VMX file on the extracted location. Select and press open.
7) Once clicked open, you can see the following summary screen.
By default, it’s not required to change any settings here. But still you can change anything if you want, like increasing memory size.
8) You have to play around with processor virtualization option if virtualization is enabled on your PC BIOS. You can check whether virtualization is enabled or not on motherboard by running tools in Windows OS. Read more here about motherboard BIOS virtualization.
9) My working Mac virtual machine processor settings show as below. (Already I disabled virtualization in BIOS)
It worked fine even after selected two processors.
10) That’s it. Start Mac Virtual machine by pressing Start VM. I’m sure it will boot and work fine. If it hangs with Mac logo, you must check processor virtualization and disable it. Check my previous posts and some useful user comments about this.
In fact, it worked better than in VMware workstation as mentioned in previous post. This is just for testing and enjoying with Mac. This is the easiest method to run Mac OS X on PC based on X 86.
11) Mac OS X VMware image admin password
The Mac admin password is ‘ password’.
Password worked with administration tasks.
12) USB access in Mac OS X VMware image
My USB drive working fine in Mac VMware virtual machine. It can be accessed inside virtual machine without any difficulties.

13) Network in Mac OS X VMware image
Just for network test, I selected NAT as network adapter type in virtual machine option. Network is OK in this image. Mac virtual machine started communicating outside world through NAT.

14) That’s it. I showed all above steps on my Intel X 86 Core 2 Duo computer. Enjoy the Mac OS X on your PC. To get better performance, please buy Apple hardware with original latest Mac. ![]()

Thanks worked perfect for me.
Hey Thanks for the instructions. I have been able to install, however, I am unable to access the internet to update and get itunes working properly. Any advise?
Thanks.
Cara
@Cara,
Can you ping to internet router from Mac? Change the network types ( Bridged, NAT..etc) and try. Also, disconnect and connect cable. Good luck.
you would have to disconnect the connection first from your pc and then put in the configuration in the mac and then connect.(ONLY IF IT IS A BROADBAND CONNECTION). Other wise if it is a wireless connection, then it should connect.
Thanks for your instruction. I have a question on the screen resolution. I was not able to change the screen resolution because I do not have any option inside the system preference. It only has one option. May i know how can i change the resolution?
@Vod,
Try to install the VMware SVGA driver for Mac OS X guest as shown in below link. It works. Let me know.
http://www.sysprobs.com/increase-screen-resolution-wide-screen-support-mac-os-virtual-machine-vmware-player-workstation
hi..that was easy enough…worked like a charm..
…plzz help me…
but m not able to get 1440*900 resolution which is my monitor res..
the only option i m having is 1024*768
@fearzaaasssinm,
Try this method.

I got this working but I am unable to edit the settings of the machine. It is pretty slow so I was hoping I could add more ram. I have intel core 2 duo p7350. 4gb ram running windows 7 64bit
thanks for this info, I managed to get SL up and running in vmplayer 3.0 on a win7 64bit PC, also got res running at 1600×900 (woo hoo) but no sound. vm settings show sound device is there and ready but the mac os won’t pick it up. I’m using the onboard sound on an Asus motherboard M4A785T. win7 just shows it as a Via HD audio. Any advice?
also, if I run the system update is downloads and installs about 800Mb of stuff but never works on reboot.I get stuck at the first black screen with a rotating cursor thingy. Do I need to modify anything to make it boot up again?
Were you ever able to update the system software successfully? I tried but I get some kind of kernel error upon reboot. Did you have to do anything special if you got it to work?
This method can’t be updated. You need to VT supported processor to run the latest Mac OS X.
I’m trying to run this VM on windows 7 32-bit on Dell Latitude E4310. Tried enabling/disabling combinations of options available in BIOS for virtualisation. It’s still not running. Gets stuck with Mac logo.
What is the admin password?
well done, I followed your directions and it worked! – wow! I’m impressed. mind you, i only have 1gb of ram, so had to reduce for vmware to work. (btw i’m using win7 rc – yes cuts out every 2 hours, never mind ubuntu to the rescue…
I installed vmware player 3 with the torrent download but I get blue screen when opening the virtual machine (I assume its the standard vmware player background). Reading the readme of the torrent it says I need vmware workstation 6.5.1 or greater.
Any thoughts?

I just want to say thanks for this awesome post! I’ve tried multiple copies of the OSx86 project flavors and you previous post of the VMware using the workstation, but man! So glad this finally worked! The main problem for me was the hardware virtualization, which I don’t have, but this just completely went past that! Thanks again!
Hi. Thank you for sharing this version of mac OS X 10.5.5 hope you can share the OS X 10.6 I really need this version for iPad simulator. Hope you can share this with us. I tried different tutorial but it needs hardware virtualization. I am just confused because how come this 10.5.5 work while 10.6 did not it says my laptop did not pass hardware virtualization.
Looking forward that you can help me on this. Merry Christmas everybody…

It worked fine for me except one thing….when I’m trying to maximize to get the fullscreen view, its not happening…how to do this, plz help me. I’m using Compaq Presario CQ40-327TU laptop.
You have to install VGA driver as mentioned in this post,
http://www.sysprobs.com/increase-screen-resolution-wide-screen-support-mac-os-virtual-machine-vmware-player-workstation
Do not forget to take a snapshot, if available.
Nice Post. It works for me on VMWare Palyer 3.x.x
Nice post.
It works on my windows 7 64 bit (Vmware player 3.1)
processor: AMD Phenom II 2x
Ram: 4 GB
the only thing i want to ask is: can you update it to a higher version of Mac OS X?
Wesley,
I think you have a latest computer, then it must support VT (Virtualization Technology) in BIOS. If so, then follow the steps in this guide
http://www.sysprobs.com/steps-install-mac-snow-leopard-vmware-player-pre-installed-vmware-image
This can be updated to latest version.
Dinesh, I got all the way to step 9. I disabled virtualization in bios but get an error when I try to run leopard. If I enable VT then leopard just hangs like you said. Also the virtual machine settings in vm player will not allow me to change the # of procs or memory. Not sure what to do.
Here is the error I get when VT is disabled. I no other option in bios to disable “trusted exe”
This host is VT-capable, but VT is disabled.
This is usually because VT has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting. Please:
(1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable VT and disable ‘trusted execution.’
(2) Power-cycle the host, if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.
(3) Power-cycle the host, if you have not done so since installing VMware Player.
(4) Update the host’s BIOS/firmware to the latest version.
The virtual machine you are attempting to restore is in 64-bit mode, but your host does not support 64-bit VMs.
Error encountered while trying to restore the virtual machine state from file “C:\Users\Ryan\Downloads\Mac OS X Leopard\Mac OS X Leopard\Mac OS X Leopard.vmss”.
Sorry, nevermind….I seem to have gotten it working.
Thanks!

are you using it on vmware or directly on PC….
Hi, sorry for late reply, I’m using it on vmware and I have followed all your steps apart from BIOS because I have no optoin to turn it off.
i tried to edit a file that requires root access.
I tried to use the password mentioned in the post that says the admin password is password.
What is the admin password?
Please ignore my post above.
I was trying to edit SystemVersion.plist so I could change the version info in the file, so that I could get IOS sdk to install.
I used sudo nano to edit the file and it worked with the password you supplied in your very useful information.
Many thanks.
Did you ever get the ios sdk to sucessfully install? I edited the plist sucessfully and it begins installing but errors out with “failed to run preinstall script for developertools”. Did you run into this? If so what did you do?

Hi.
Tried to update, but it’s asking for the admin password. What is it?
Kind regards.
Hi,
to change “root” password, use the command:
sudo passwd root
Type MacAdmin user password “password” and then type and retype to change “root” user password.
Silly me, I just saw the answer in your post.
Thanks

Has anyone developed an Iphone or Ipad app on windows then successfully uploaded it to the Apple Store using Mac OS X through VMWare on a PC? I was wondering if it is possible to do this or if there is some kind of hardware check that makes sure you are uploading from an actual Mac machine.

nerman,
This guide is suitable for old type processor computers which don’t have VT.
Since your processor is latest and must be having VT (Virtualization Technology), I suggest to use one of the following guides with latest Mac OS X,
http://www.sysprobs.com/steps-install-mac-snow-leopard-vmware-player-pre-installed-vmware-image
or
http://www.sysprobs.com/install-mac-os-1065-snow-leopard-virtualboxseveral-issues-fixed
Everything worked like a charm, but I am not able to get the full screen. Many thanks for this awesome work. and off-theshelf vmdk.
I have install the VGA driver and restarted the VM also. Any other suggestion about how to do it.
Thanks
Tej
Ok, I have changed the resolution and it made the effect similar to full screen.
It will do for me.
Thanks for a great work
Tej
I have two monitor on my windows machine with VMware Player install. Lets say I have installed two VM (one Mac OS and other Ubuntu). I cannot move input devices (keyboard, mouse) between these VM in full screen as I could do if both VM are ubuntu only.
Any Suggestion on this

Anyone try this before ? sorry if this is a noob question but just want to make sure it is working because the update file is quiet large for me (145mb)

I have windows XP intel core 2 duo service pack 2. how do i install MAC on my PC
I have windows XP intel core 2 duo service pack 2. how do i install MAC on my PC. I dont have virtualization hardware support. please help.
For some reason, Snow Leopard just doesn’t like 6-core Phenom II’s. Whether installing on the PC or VM Ware/Virtualbox. OSX 10.5 works just fine through iATKOS V7i however. Disappointing.
@Swati says:
Read info about it from up posts.

Thanks
Is this legal? I’m getting mad.
No way. you are using a paid software without paying it. Copyright violation. But we do it anyways…
Thanks a lot.
