Unfortunately Oracle VirtualBox is missing virtual machine cloning tool. If you need to copy or clone a virtual machine without re installing OS and other applications, then you are in trouble with VB.  This post explains how to copy and clone virtual machines in VirtualBox with CloneVDI GUI tool, a third party software.

VMware has great built in cloning tool, allows to make two types of cloning very quickly. Read more about it here.

vdi-to-vmdkThis post explains how to convert vdi to vmdk and open Sun VirtualBox virtual machine in to VMware workstation or VMplayer 3. As you are aware, Virtual Box uses VDI as hard disk file and VMware uses VMDK.  Opening VMDK in VirtualBox is very straight forward since VirtualBox supports VMDK. VirtualBox Images Free VDI DownloadsIf you are a lazy person like me (sometimes) then this post will be useful to download pre installed OS VirtualBox images as VDI files for completely free. Each VirtualBox image saves your installation and configuration time. Its not required to get CD or ISO and install on VirtualBox. Just Download these Free VDI (VB hard disk files) and start using them.

These free VDI file downloads are direct and not torrent. So do not worry about spyware or malware.  Obviously, don’t ask me where to download licensed operating system VDI images such as Windows, Mac OS X etc, but still it’s possible to download some licensed versions of OSs on internet. You search and find. This list is mostly included free and open license OSs.  Read more...
