Maintenance release of Sun VirtualBox 3.1.8 released on 10th May 2010. It’s having some fixes
related to GUI, Networks and shared folders. You can view the complete change log here. So, what’s new in VirtualBox 3.1.8? It’s nothing.
Everybody expected the final version of Oracle VirtualBox 3.2, but 3.1.8 came before. So, we can expect 3.2 with some major changes after little while.
I already posted a screen shot of Mac OS X guest support on VirtualBox 3.2 beta, you can view it here. I tried my best to install Mac OS X Snow leopard on VirtualBox 3.2 by retail DVD, currently it’s a difficult task. VirtualBox forum officially announced that they do not support Mac OS X guest in VirtualBox 3.2 on non Mac hardware. It means, you cannot virtualize Mac OS X on non Mac hardware by VirtualBox. Mac OS X guest support by VirtualBox 3.2 only in Mac hardware computers.
The following message published by officials in VirtualBox forum.
" Due to license restrictions the new Mac OSX as Guest feature is only available to users with Apple/MAC hardware, and only for "Mac OSX Server" installations as a guest OS. Any other combination is unsupported and will therefore not work. Any post that talks about a different combination will be removed without warning. Any discussions of ways to get around the Apple SLA will also be removed."
You know what? My one post removed by this condition, I don’t mind. We have to respect Apple and Oracle’s policies.
So, do not waste your time to install Mac OS X retail version on Sun VirtualBox with non Mac hardware. But, still it’s possible to install hacked Mac versions like Mac OS X 10.5.5 on VirtualBox.
This sucks big time. All other OS es can run on virtual guests on linux, windows or Mac. When you buy Snowleopard and want to install it as a virtual guest on a different OS it is forbidden.
