VMware released the updated version of their desktop virtualization software VMware workstation 8.0.2 recently. This is a minor updated release with official support to Fedora 16 guest and Ubuntu 11.10 host. Also, VMware confirms that most of the customer issues have been fixed in latest 8.0.2 version.
The official support to Fedora 16 guest by VMware Workstation 8.0.2 should enable the smooth ‘Easy Install’ of guest OS and proper VMware tools installation. Though, I have not tried them yet, those should work fine on this latest version.
Now, you can install and run VMware workstation 8.0.2 on Ubuntu 11.10 host without any issues.
This is a free update from VMware for all Workstation 8 users.
With the above same updated release, VMware released their free desktop virtualization product VMware Player 4.0.2, which is having similar changes as Workstation 8.0.2.

Unlocking also works for 8.0.2.
I have extracted the InstallESD.DMG from the Install App.
Inside the InstallESD.DMG is another InstallESD.DMG which I converted to an ISO without any problems with DMG2IMG.
Now just coose Mac OS 10.7 Guest and attach the iso.
Lion boots an you can install it cleanly without modifications.
