Manually Download Mac OS X 10.6.x, 10.7.x Combo Updates Separately from Official Site

For some reasons, if you want to download the older version of Mac OS X 10.6.x and 10.7.x combo updated manually, here is the collection of the list. Usually, the Mac OS gets the update via the App store. But if you are Hackintosh user or IT geek who wants to play around with the updates or your Mac OS X is not finding the next combo update with the App store, then manually downloading the update is the only option.

Manually downloading the Mac OS X updates separately and keeping those DMG files is a great way of dealing the Mac computers which don’t have the Internet. Also, if you need to deal with the OS X update with multiple computers, keeping the combo update DMG in USB or network share becomes handy to update them quickly rather than downloading and installing on each computer individually.

If you are using Lion Hackintosh, I suggest taking a snapshot before proceeding this update. Even though several users said that they successfully updated Lion to 10.7.2 in VMware, but I’m not sure how it worked as I have not tried yet.

  • 10.7.3 Combo Update

Apple has released an update for Lion OS X with several minor fixes. The latest update 10.7.3 comes with Safari 5.1.3 and few fixes for Microsoft Active Directory service. As usual, it is highly recommended for all Mac (Lion OS X) users to update the latest version. Here I’m providing the download links for client and server 10.7.3 combo/separate updates.

Apple recommends using ‘Time machine’ to take a system backup before proceeding to Software update online or manually.

Download link for 10.7.3 (Client) ( 997.01MB – You need to have 10.7.2 system already)

Download link for 10.7.3 (Client) Combo –  (1.2GB – You do not need any of the previous updates on Lion OS X, this will work with 10.7)

Download link for 10.7.3 (Server) – (1GB – This is only for Lion OS X Server version if you have 10.7.2 already)

Download link for 10.7.3 (Server) Combo – (1.34GB – This is only for Lion OS X Server version which will work from 10.7)

Hackintosh 10.7.3

I have not tried the latest 10.7.3 on any of the earlier Hackintosh methods on VirtualBox or VMware. I’m not sure how it will behave after the update. I recommend taking a snapshot from VirtualBox or VMware workstation before proceed to update.

  1. I tried this on my VirtualBox 4 setup with a retail version of Snow Leopard installed. The upgrade “worked”, but when I rebooted the VM it won’t boot.

  2. REPLY WHY IS IT STUCK ON THE LOADING SCREEN REPLY! WHEN I INSTALL THE 10.5.5 WHY IS IT STUCK MAN WTF

  3. I tried to upgrade my Os X 10.6.3 with combo 10.6.8.
First of all I cloned my working disk-image. This gives the possibility to have a workin goperating system all time.
Then I run the combo upgrade. Unfortunately I did a restart before juggling the kesxt files. I could start the system but it froze soon.
Then I changed in the virtualbox the boot disk to the still working one. As a second disk I installed the upgraded non-operating disk. So I could copy the kext-files from the good system to the upgraded one. But it did not help a bit.
Also, in the upgraded I tried to edi the plist file to increase the monitor resolution. But I could not enter the “<" key from the keyboard to the editor. I tried different editors. Also the mouse was cptured and needed to be releases ba the right ctrl-key. Finally the system froze again.

Anyway, for testing it is most adviseable to clone the harddisk. This uses extra space on the physical disk, but after a successful ooperation this space can be freed again.

P.S.: running Virtualbox in UBUNTU Linux.
