Here you can see the physical memory consumption comparison for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
This test is done in two physical computers after both operating systems (windows Vista and Windows 7) installed freshly. No any additional software installed on both OS.
Windows Vista vs Windows 7 – Memory Test Hardware Configurations of both computers,
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
1GB 667MHz DDR2 Memory.
80GB 5200RPM Hard drive.
I did not remove any start up programs, and to make sure all startup processor are completed and its in normal state, all measurements are taken after 6 minutes from startup.
Average time calculated from three measurements. It’s difficult to publish all six (3 from Windows Vista and 3 from Windows 7) screen shots of task manager, there for one from each operating system.

Result of Windows Vista vs Windows 7 Performance Test.
Windows Vista always runs with 33 processes when computer is doing nothing.
Windows 7 always runs with 29 processes when computer is doing nothing
Vista Average Memory usage is – 327.33MB – 31.96% of physical memory
Windows 7 Average Memory usage is – 256.78MB – 25.07% physical memory
Windows 7 running 6.45% lesser processes than Windows Vista in normal state
Windows 7 running 12.08% lesser memory usage than windows Vista in normal state.
Even though test result percentages seem small amount, but it makes huge difference in performance with Windows 7. Windows 7 really works faster. Sysprobs will be publishing further test results on Windows Vista vs Windows 7. Keep visiting sysprobe.com
Note: – These results can be varying for others on other computers. But final result will be the same for all.
